We woke up to a small disappointment on Sunday morning as we learned that there were no other riders in the 50cc Oil Class where Jack is currently in 1st place for the season. This meant that Jack would only be racing in the 50cc 7-8 Class for today.
After a lot of discussion regarding the previous day's race, Jack was ready to redeem himself on Sunday. In the morning we worked on getting a good start and talked about the new clutch setup so Jack could get a better idea of how it would power the bike. Practice went smooth and he was ready for the racing to begin.
Jack was finally able to get a solid start in Moto 1 and found himself in a 3 way battle for the lead going into the first corner. He slipped to 3rd and got stuck behind another rider which allowed the 1st place bike to get a huge lead. With his focus on moving up, Jack was able to make the pass for 2nd on lap number two and did not look back. He put in 3 solid laps while showing great cornering speed which was lacking on the previous day.
I told Jack to go out and do the same thing as in Moto 1. Fortunately for him, he did not listen. When the green flag dropped for Moto 2, Jack was a little too eager and got stuck on the starting gate. He was able to quickly free himself but was back in 4th place. Jack was not about to let that stop him as he rocketed through the corners, over the double jumps, and made the passes for 3rd and 2nd, before the end of the first lap. The 1st place rider Evan Christian, was within striking distance and "Dirt Sandwich" would not let him get away. With the added speed, a scary moment transpired on lap 2. Jack entered the whoops section with a good drive off the corner, and with too much speed, landed in the middle of the whoops causing his head to slam into the handlebars. Despite bouncing around on the bike, and not being able to see clearly for a few moments, Jack refused to crash and kept the throttle pinned as he was able to save the bike from going down. The misstep allowed Christian to open up a sizeable lead until the last turn when he went down right before the finish line. He quickly recovered and Jack was not quite close enough to make the pass for 1st place. He would settle for 2nd in the Moto and 2nd overall on the day. It was a huge step for "Dirt Sandwich" as he was able to find speed that he didn't know he had up until that point.

Greenbush, MN is where Jack's racing career started three years ago. The track was not kind to him back then and ended up producing his nickname, "Dirt Sandwich". It may have taken three years but Jack finally dialed the track in by the end of the Memorial Day weekend.
