August has been a busy month for Dirt Sandwich Racing. The month started off at the Clearwater County Fair in Bagley. Jack was more than ready for this race as he had a huge fan following of friends and family. Jack gave the crowd quite a show, easily taking a 1st place finish in both his heat race and the main event. His confidence was so high he decided to perform a “Dirt Nac” on the final lap of the race; a trick he only performs at the fair races according to him.
Race number 2 took place in Brainerd on August 20th. This race was the season finale of the 2010 Faircross Series. Dirt Sandwich came into the night with a commanding points lead in the series after taking 1st place finishes in Park Rapids, Bemidji, and Bagley. Once again the competition was overmatched as Jack guided his KTM 50 to another 1st place finish.
Following a late night of racing in Brainerd on the 20th, Dirt Sandwich headed to Brooks International Raceway on Saturday the 21st to continue his racing in the DMC Motorsports series. Heading into the race Jack sat in 4th place on the season, 10 points behind 3rd place. After a strong practice Jack was ready to show the competition that he was ready for the challenge. Moto 1 started and Jack got pushed wide in the first turn, momentarily falling back to 5th place. The leaders looked as though they would get away but Dirt Sandwich used his speed in the corners to close the gap. With three laps remaining Jack had moved into 3rd place and was making his move on 2nd when he got loose in the backside corner and went down. A quick recovery kept him in 3rd place.
When the gate dropped for Moto 2, Dirt Sandwich hit the first turn in 2nd place, right on the leader’s tail. The 3rd place rider was all over Jack as the three riders quickly separated from the rest of the field. With 3 laps remaining Jack entered the backside corner that had caused him to crash in Moto 1. As he hit the apex of the corner his footpeg caught the dirt kicking the bike sideways causing Jack’s feet to come off the bike. He stayed on the throttle and got straightened out but that mistake allowed the 3rd place rider to pass him. Dirt Sandwich desperately attempted to get the position back and pushed his KTM 50 to the limits, eventually settling for another 3rd place finish and 3rd overall on the day. As a spectator, Moto 2 was the most exciting race of the season, a true showing of Dirt Sandwich’s skill and determination.
With his 3rd place finish at Brooks, Jack moved into 3rd place in the Championship standings leading 4th place by eight points and following 2nd place by twenty-six. Four races remain and it is shaping up to be an exciting end to the season!
